Pastor's mysterious abduction a month over and still no leads?

KUALA LUMPUR - The wife of Pastor Raymond Koh, who was abducted in broad daylight, warned today that the case has been a blow to the multiracial and interfaith harmony in Malaysia.

With the mystery no closer to being solved a month on, Susanna Liew Sow Yoke urged the country’s leaders to address and allay such fears, claiming many in the public are feeling a deep sense of outrage at what has happened.

“My husband’s abduction is unprecedented in Malaysia, which has long stood as a global example of multiracial and interfaith harmony. This harmony is precious to all of us: it is the foundation on which we stand as a nation.

“For many Malaysians, the abduction of my husband, a man of faith who is known in the community for his charity work, is a blow to that harmony,” Liew said in a statement here.

Liew said besides her family, those are others who feel traumatised by the incident.

“I thank all those leaders who have spoken up; I hope more will step up to send a clear message that Malaysia does not tolerate such acts of criminal violence against anyone, regardless of race, religion, creed or circumstances,” she said.

Koh has been missing since his February 13 abduction by masked men on a public road in Petaling Jaya.

Koh’s wife had previously said her husband, who founded a group called Harapan Komuniti that was started over 10 years ago and works with marginalised communities, had no known enemies.

The family is offering a reward of RM100,000 to anyone with information of his whereabouts.

Meanwhile, the police are probing the authenticity of a video allegedly showing a close-circuit television (CCTV) recording of the abduction, which claimed the whole incident took place just under 40 seconds.
